The Gouden Ham

A great start to your log cabin boat holiday

The boarding location of the Land of Maas and Waal at Hanseatic town Maasbommel is in recreational area the Gouden Ham. This is a great area to start your log cabin boating adventure, you don’t have to go straight up the Meuse and you don’t have to deal with ebb and flow.

The area was created by sand mining between 1960 and 1980. Today, the lake is used as a recreational area with beaches, marinas and water sports facilities. On the three green peninsulas you will find a mix of pleasant recreation and peaceful nature, at Maaslanden beach you have a 700-metre-long swimming beach. From there, you can walk to Riverside for a bite to eat or a drink at the beach bar.

If you are more of a nature lover, be sure to visit the Moringerwaarden, where you can moor beautifully in nature, hike, canoe and spot animals.

You can moor to spend the night at one of the natural jetties. All along the lake, however, you will also find moorings at restaurants and marinas. By agreement with port master or owner, you can often moor there too.

Out and about
Right at the pick-up location you will find restaurant Foepy’s, highly recommended with a large terrace on the Meuse! Moeke Mooren is also a good place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and if the weather is unexpectedly bad, you can also do some fun indoor activities like bowling or an escape room. A little further away from the Gouden Ham you will find the famous Bloemenpark Appeltern, , these can be reached by car from Maasbommel, or rent a bike at Riverside.

If you have explored the Gouden Ham enough and are used to the log cabin boat, sail left or right up the Meuse for a nice trip towards the Loonse Waard or Oude Maas and discover even more unspoilt nature.
