Spotted many kingfishers
“What a wonderful week with the houseboat in the Land van Maas en Waal.
The welcome by Burgi was fantastic and everything was explained very clearly!
We found lovely quiet spots and were able to spot many kingfishers.
One more recommendation if you enjoy birdwatching: bring binoculars!”

We’ll be back next year!
“Last week we sailed on the Linge, and for us it was the most beautiful location so far. We had previously visited De Biesbosch and the Bommelerwaard, but we found this to be the perfect combination. Stunning nature, while still having plenty of charming villages and small towns nearby.
We truly enjoyed it! We’ll definitely be back next year. Can’t wait.”

Back home, we had to get used to the hustle again
“We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing week on the houseboat in the Biesbosch. Precisely because it wasn’t too warm, it was wonderfully peaceful and we were able to fully enjoy the beautiful nature. Back home, we had to get used to all the hustle and bustle around us again. Highly recommended for anyone who loves peace and quiet.”

Fantastic concept!
“What a fantastic concept! We spent 4 wonderful days cruising together with my sons and daughter-in-law, enjoying the beautiful nature of the Bommelerwaard. It left us wanting more!”

Special visit
“Waking up to the chatter of a pair of kingfishers, no alarm clock needed on the houseboat. And on our last evening, we were visited by beavers.”

The Linge is actually quite long!
“We once again had wonderful weather on the Linge, visited the glass museum and the glassblowing workshop in Leerdam. The boat is cozy and everything you need is available. The outdoor shower is wonderful and can get very warm.
The Linge is beautiful and actually quite long. After 5 days, I had admired the little river from every angle and it was lovely returning to Arkel.”

Beavers swam by while we were showering!
“Wonderful midweek stay in the Bommelerwaard with our little dog! We slept in beautiful spots surrounded by nature. While showering outdoors, two beavers swam by!”

Sailing takes some getting used to, but it’s easy to do
“What a wonderful midweek stay we had on the houseboat in the Bommelerwaard with our family and 3 teenage children. Sailing takes a little getting used to, but with the good instructions and the simple controls, it is very easy to do.”

The log cabin boat is clean, fresh, and fully equipped. You have the option to read all sorts of things and watch videos in preparation via links sent to you at home, but inside the boat itself there is also a magazine where everything—and I mean everything—is explained all over again, along with maps with tips on what there is to see and do. There is also a cool bag waiting for you with washing-up supplies, hand and tea towels, pen and paper, a lighter with opener, a keychain, and mints. Should you get cold, there is even heating! Absolutely everything has been thought of to make you feel more than (warmly) welcome!
All in all, highly recommended!

We rented three boats on the Bommelerwaard with our whole family—8 adults and 4 grandchildren—for a long weekend.
Before we left, Inge gave us a good explanation of the boats and the beautiful spots where we could moor.
A beautiful private beach on the Litsche Ham was our first mooring place; the children were immediately out on the water with the canoes and SUP boards.
In the evening, we had a nice BBQ by a campfire. The next day we moored at Alemse Gat; a pair of swans came to meet us, we saw beaver lodges, and Scottish Highland cattle on the banks greeting us.
The day after that, we returned to Litsche Ham to spend another pleasant day there.
Steering the boat becomes second nature very quickly and was very relaxing to do. All in all... a wonderful weekend with everyone that we will never forget.

Goals: birdwatching and enjoying nature. Check and check.
It is an experience and an adventure.

The combination of tranquility, nature, and adventure was truly unique for us. You sail straight from the harbor into the floodplains, where you're literally immersed in silence. With only water, birds, and endless space around you. I often miss this in my (daily) life in the city.
Above all, I was impressed by the dedicated, personal service from Inge, owner and supervisor of the boats in Heerewaarden. I left a day earlier than my boyfriend, which meant I would be steering the boat myself on the first day, something I had been quite nervous about beforehand, being so alone. But Inge quickly put an end to that with her relaxed, patient explanations and humor. She is the epitome of calm and sailed with me until I felt confident enough. So engaged!
She also took the time to discuss my personal sailing wishes and come up with a sort of campaign plan for the weekend. I really didn't expect that at all; normally, you're just another number. That's absolutely not the case here; you really feel like it's a proud and warm family business.
In the end, I found the sailing the best part of the weekend, and my boyfriend barely got a turn… Thanks, Inge 😉 But honestly, being in control of your own "house" and being able to steer it across the Meuse was a fantastic feeling.
Now for the experience itself: I was worried beforehand that the boat might be a bit small for a long weekend, and you're all crammed together, but you really don't have to worry about that here. There's tons of space. The boat is fully equipped and conveniently laid out. I always find it so annoying when an Airbnb has exactly two basic plates and a single knife. Expect a kitchen with a regular stove, a good cheese slicer (I almost wanted to take it with me), a wine opener, several (wooden!) cutting boards, and all sorts of pots and pans, plus several tea towels instead of just one that's constantly wet. They make the boats themselves, and you'll feel that care and attention in many ways.
The beds are also comfortable, the heating is up to full speed in no time, there are several lounge chairs and tables, a spacious toilet, a canoe, and an outdoor shower. The latter is also quite an experience. Straight from your refreshing morning swim, you can jump in the shower and be ready for the day (and instantly feel like you're on vacation/in the great outdoors). I'd love that at home too ;).
What I find most unique: you can choose to moor somewhere where you don't hear or see anyone. Among the beavers, swans, and highland cattle. Just lay out your own gangplank and you're there. Inge gave us extra wood and firelighters, left over from previous guests, to light a campfire and roast marshmallows. The highlight of the first day. Don't forget to keep track of the tides, because you might get stuck (even in the Meuse).
On the second day, we went to soak up the atmosphere in one of the small villages, and then walked back to our floating cottage. (Across a tow ferry, another fun experience). That combination of sailing, being together in nature, visiting villages, swimming/canoeing, making lots of drinks platters, and enjoying cooking and dining together was perfect. Exactly what we needed, and it made us feel like we were away for a week.
Well, I can talk about it at length or briefly: the Log Cabin Boat is simply highly recommended. Anyone can do it, and if not, you have Inge to explain it to you. And such peace, freedom, and space to completely connect with each other in the middle of nowhere is something you don't often experience. It feels like a luxury you can't really buy.
We will definitely be back! Perhaps next time in spring; that autumn glow and morning mist were so fantastic every time.

We're fans and will be back next year👌

A boat trip is beautiful,
On the river in a blokhut boat,
You can see birds and more. (...)
Our blokhut boat trip from July 7th to 11th on the Linge River was simply fantastic. After the lovely, friendly, and competent briefing by Priscilla, we headed out into nature.
Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of moorhens, coots, mallards, Egyptian geese, greylag geese, goosanders, cormorants, kingfishers, and many more – that makes any relaxation music unnecessary. You can moor anywhere – where permitted – swim with the feathered friends, or simply sunbathe on deck – with the log cabin boat, you're truly close to nature.
And since we had a fishing permit, we could also fish – another highlight. Driving the log cabin boat is child's play; only mooring takes a little practice.
And true to the Pink Panther's motto: We'll be back, no question!
