Historic villages and peaceful nature

On the meandering Linge, you cruise alternately past beautiful old villages and towns, sturdy forts and colourful fruit orchards.

Easy sailing, no tides

The Linge is a small and easily navigable river. Moreover, you don’t have to take tides into account.

Sleeping in nature or in a marina

Spend the night among fruit trees in the quiet countryside or moor at one of the cosy town or village ports that dot the Linge.

Experiencing true adventures

Paddle down the Linge by canoe or SUP in search of unusual plants and animals along the overgrown banks. At dusk, you are bound to see kingfishers!

Small river past historic villages and fruit trees

Do beautiful old dyke villages and towns, interspersed with beautiful fruit orchards that surprise you every season, make your heart beat faster? You will discover it all from the Netherlands’ longest river.

It doesn’t really matter when you visit the Linge. All year round, this sailing area is full of surprises! You start from Arkel, right on the river. You sail through a varied landscape in the heart of the Betuwe. The region is known for its many fruit trees. Especially in spring, when the trees are blossoming. From your log cabin boat, you have the best view of the most beautiful spots along the water.

The soggy marshes and reed beds of this Natura 2000 area are home to beavers and groups of spoonbills. Other permanent residents like egrets, kingfishers and large raptors can also be seen everywhere.

But the Linge region offers even more! Follow the meandering curves and take a look at sturdy forts and locks left over from old defences. In the tea gardens and on the Marienwaerdt estate, you can enjoy local produce. If you like culture and/or shopping, visit fortified town Gorinchem and/or city of glass Leerdam. From Geldermalsen, you can take a short walk or canoe or SUP via river branch the Korne to Oranjestad Buren. There is always something to do on the Linge!

The Linge in het kort:

  • Take a break with local delicacies in one of the many tea gardens
  • Sail past historic dyke villages and delve into history in the old fortified town of Gorinchem
  • Visit the cool Fort bij Asperen or discover all about the earth at GeoFort museum
  • See the ancient craft of glassblowing in the City of Glass Leerdam.
  • Will you spot a beaver, kingfishers or spoonbills?

  • Paddle by canoe to Oranjestad Buren via the narrow river branch the Korne

Sailing routes

Sailing area the Linge entails the whole river section between Gorinchem and Geldermalsen/Buren. On the Linge, you may moor at designated moorings and natural lakes (see magazine). Other moorings along the Linge are often privately owned. From Geldermalsen, you can paddle a canoe or SUP on the Korne to Buren.

Culture and nature go hand in hand here

Combine sailing in nature with visiting an atmospheric town. A walk through Gorinchem is a walk through history. The dozens of monuments reflect a time when the city was a centre of shipping, trade and fishing. With the log cabin boat, you dock in the city centre!

Would you rather enjoy the beautiful nature or have a swim and sunbathe? You can do this very well at one of the natural moorings, clearly marked in our Blokhutboot Magazine!

Discover the Linge by canoe or SUP

The Linge is a narrow river. As a result, you cannot reach all spots equally well with the log cabin boat. Therefore, our log cabin boats are equipped with a two-person canoe as standard. With it, you can explore the banks yourself. If you are an enthusiastic paddler, follow the canoe route from Geldermalsen and visit Oranjestad Buren.

You can also include a SUP in your booking. If you have always wanted to do this, this is your chance, the calm waters of the Linge are great for learning!

Colourful kingfishers and gnawing beavers

The beaver, bittern, spoonbill and even the kingfisher do not easily show up anywhere. Along the Linge, there is always a chance of encountering these special creatures! The quiet moments at dusk are the best time to look for them. Kingfishers usually fly just above the water in search of fish. Look for gnawed and bare branches somewhere on the bank to spot a beaver.

Tip: if you are a true animal lover, then Owl and animal park De Paay in Beesd is fun to visit. They have more than 70 species of animals there!

Mooring on the Linge

On the Linge, you may sail between sunrise and sunset. While sailing, you are likely to pass many Lingelandjes. These are pieces of land adjacent to the Linge River and used for daytime recreation.

Note: you are not allowed to moor a log cabin boat here unless otherwise indicated. Places where you can moor are clearly marked in the Blokhutboot Magazine. You are also welcome at marinas in this area.
