An adventure to remember

Now this is a holiday!

Vloggers Britt & Lynn checked in from boarding location Heerewaarden for a long weekend log cabin boat. Enthusiastically, they tell us about their experiences on the water.

Bikini: check. Barbecue: check. Log cabin boat: check! All the ingredients for a fantastic weekend on the Meuse are in place. Let the great adventure begin!

We do not have a boating licence, but that is not necessary. Anyone can sail a log cabin boat, including us! Fortunately, we do get a lesson first, so we can set off confidently. No sooner said than done and soon we are at the helm of what will be our home for the next few days. On the water. Wow.

The sailing is great! The sun is shining, the water is lovely and calm. Lynn is captain, Britt the chef. Good division of roles, we think. After a few hours of sailing, we decide it’s time to moor at our own ‘private beach’ on the Lithse Ham. That’s easy too: take out the spud pole, adjust the steering, lay out the footbridge to the beach and off we go for a barbecue!

Then it turns out that we are not as private as we thought after all, because suddenly we are joined by a family of horses who also fancy a nice hamburger. What an experience to be so close to nature.

Toasting to the good life

As dusk falls, we make our own campfire for the first time. Not just for warmth, mainly because we love marshmallows so much, of course! We toast to the good life one more time, put out the fire and walk a little less straight as we went on the footbridge back to the boat. Soon we are in dreamland, which is what the outdoors does to you.

The next morning, we wake up to the birds, clearly just as eager for the day as we are. Looking outside, we see the rising sun. We look at each other and think the same thing: canoeing! Once in the canoe, we see our first highlight of the day: a swimming beaver in the rising sun! What luck!

When we are back on the boat, Britt takes a shower. Not just any shower, but with hot water. Outside, at the back of the boat. Overlooking the water and the beautiful greenery everywhere. What a holiday this is! Meanwhile, Lynn has breakfast ready, laying a good foundation for another wonderful day of sailing.

We enjoy ourselves intensely, the boat, the water, the view, each other. We experience a lot of firsts this weekend: sailing ourselves, mooring a boat, making a campfire, seeing beavers, taking hot showers outside. It is an adventure we will never forget and we don’t have to. Because we will definitely do this again soon!
